Under sink grease traps are generally used for the protection of wastewater treatment and septic system. Grease, fats, and oils can prevent the efficacy of wastewater treatment systems which may be installed further along in the plumbing network.

Under sink traps are recommended for use in homes and smaller restaurant kitchens where grease, fats, and oils are being produced and washed down the sink.
